Politically subversive, [Almost Equal To] is a sharp exploration of money in modern life.

Description: It’s a story so well-known it scarcely needs an introduction, yet surprisingly the Guthrie has produced it just twice before. Set in Verona, where the rival houses of Capulet and Montague have had a long-standing feud, Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare’s famous tragedy of star-crossed lovers, filled with all the passion of young love. Underscored by ingenious wit and astonishing beauty, the play pits the bitterness of resentment against the intensity of romance.

Description: Jeremiah and Vanessa Gamble, the creative team behind Kingdom Undone, and Til Death: A Marriage Musical, present their newest labor of love, Sam’s Son, a Prohibition-era Americana musical loosely inspired by the biblical story of Samson. While this musical is not that story specifically, it is inspired by themes in the original story– purity, hypocrisy, judgment, and liberation. Jeremiah says, “I saw that the Prohibition era echoed those same themes and has striking parallels with our country today.” St. Paul’s tainted bootlegging history is not lost on the authors. Their unique performance venue is Art House North, a 100+ year old church in the West 7th neighborhood of St. Paul, and home to their theater company, Bucket Brigade. The show will take place on both levels of the church, the upper level holding much of the action, while the downstairs lobby is transformed into a speakeasy serving German pretzels and draft root beer. SYNOPSIS: Gifted with unnatural strength, Sam Jr. wants to accomplish great things, but his reverend father seeks to shelter him from the wide world. When a Prohibition agent comes digging for secrets in the town of Goode, Sam and his father get caught up in a tangled mission of truth, where lies get revealed at great cost.

Description: The Great American Revues like The Ziegfeld Follies, George White Scandals and The Passing Shows remade Broadway in the 1920’s. The era brought the incomparable sounds of The Jazz Age to audiences, ushering in new sounds and styles of music, dance and theatre to the world of the stage. Now, the music and magic of that time returns to amuse and engage audiences in 2017. The Theatre of the Ridiculous and Absurd brings the first fully-staged historical revival of Irving Berlin’s Music Box Revue 1921, October 12-14 at The Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center. After Irving Berlin left the Ziegfeld Follies, he built The Music Box Theatre for his revolutionary music, dance, and skits celebrating the post WWI world. Based on the original piano score, this production is a combination of all aspects of Berlin's genius. Jerome Kern said, “Irving Berlin has no place in American Music. He is American Music." Newly orchestrated for simple-pit orchestra, along with a complex piano score denoting Berlin's distinctive style, Director Doug Daily leads a production featuring a talented cast of regional performers, choreographers, and musicians. Purchase tickets now for this historical theatric gem presented October 12-14 at 7:30 pm at the Ives Auditorium, Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center in Bloomington. A portion of net proceeds will be going to The Aliveness Project and Open Arms for Minnesota, donating meals for people living with chronic illness, along with Youth Link, an organization that assists homeless youth. With comedy sketches throughout, the show will keep you laughing as audiences did decades ago. Irving Berlin’s Music Box Revue 1921 will leave you tapping your toes and delight your heart.
